Who else is feeling a bit worse for wear after this silly season? As I get older it seems to take me longer and longer to recover from events such as Christmas and New Years.
Detoxification after these occasions can be an effective way to practice self care and recover quicker. Detoxification occurs via several different organs in our body including our skin, lungs, kidneys, liver, lymphatic system and digestion. It is important to keep these pathways functioning well to improve elimination of toxins in the body.
The liver is the principal organ of detoxification which is constantly working to filter our blood and clear out toxins. However, if our liver is congested with excess fat or exposure to excessive toxins in the environment it may be unable to deconjugate and clear toxins from our system and put excessive load on other detoxifying organs such as the skin or digestion. This can cause issues such as break outs of acne, skin rashes or diarrhoea.
One simple tip to improve liver detoxification is to include some dandelion root tea in your morning routine. Dandelion root tea is great for improving digestive liver insufficiency as well as improving bile production and release to assist in the removal of toxins from the body.
In addition, the use of a good quality organic greens powder supplement containing chlorella, spirulina and wheatgrass will assist to alkalise, detoxify, and cleanse while supporting digestion. These supplements are very high in antioxidants that help to clear free radicals that can cause damage in the body.
The lymphatic clearance of toxins can be supported by having a regular exercise routine consisting of 30 minutes a day or dry body brushing. Dry body brushing aids in the elimination of wastes, improves digestion, and increases cell renewal. It consists of using a purpose made hard bristled brush (usually available in health food stores) and brushing inwards on limbs towards the heart and in a clockwise direction on the abdomen prior to a nice warm shower.
Further detoxification processes involve cleaning up the diet to include more organic fruits and vegetables and reducing red meat intake to 1-2 times a week. Evaluation of the home for chemicals that may be harmful is also an important step in the detoxification process to remove any harmful substances which may be damaging the body.
Stay tuned for appointments available in February for further help detoxifying your home and body.
